White Hall Community Center is located at 14536 FM 362 in Navasota, Grimes County, Texas. The community center is about 7 miles north of Camp Allen, a modern, year-round retreat and conference center that hosts more than 40,000 visitors each year and about 5 miles south of SH 105. The community center and the beautiful grounds are available for rental for private parties, weddings, receptions and reunions at a rate of $150 per day.

The day’s activities are as follows:

Community Garage Sale begins at 9 am - multi-family - household goods; adult, kids, and infant clothing and much, much more

Bake Sale: Pies, cakes, cookies and pastries

BBQ Chickens - $5 per half

Raffle tickets - grand prize $500 cash - $2 each or book of 6 for $5
Tickets can be purchased in advance at the White Hall Store located at FM 362 and FM 2988, Navasota, Grimes County, Texas

Proceeds go toward repair, maintenance and upkeep of the historic White Hall Community Center, so designated by the Texas Historical Society in 1989. This year’s fund raiser is especially important because sometime during the last week of June, burglars entered the building and stole all of the wiring, copper plumbing and one of the air conditioning units, presumably to sell the copper. The theft would have netted about $300 in copper scrape, yet cost more than $11,000 to repair. The White Hall Community Center and the grounds are available for rental to the general public for weddings, receptions, birthdays, meetings and other functions all year round.

About the White Hall Community Center
As communities were developed by early settlers in Texas, small rural schools were established. Primarily serving farm families, the schools were often closed when children were needed to help harvest crops or perform other farm chores. Located at this site, the first White Hall School building was a two-story frame structure. A community gathering place, it hosted civic as well as scholastic activities. Many local residents credit the school with promoting a sense of community when the children of pioneer Anglo families and those of German immigrant families attended classes together during the time of the first World War. After serving the community through the difficult years of the Depression and two World Wars, White Hall School was closed in 1949. The school building was acquired by the White Hall Taxpayers Association in 1954. It was razed and a new community center was erected on the site in 1959.

The White Hall Community Center is located only 3 miles from Groce’s Retreat, another historically significant location in southern Grimes County. According to Texas historical records, while residing at the plantation in early 1836, George C. Childress drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence, which was signed at Washington-on-the-Brazos on March 2. President David G. Burnet and his cabinet stayed at Groce's Retreat from March 18 to March 21, 1836, on their way from Washington-on-the-Brazos to Harrisburg; for three days it was thus the temporary capital of the Republic of Texas.
